Circles, Bangers, Christmas Crackers 🎄
A Big Fan of Mac Miller, Christmas playlists and something to get you in festive spirit xx
Haló angels 👼🏻
Tá súil agam go bhfuil sibh uilig ar fónamh agus nach bhfuil sibh róchráite ag an nuacht le gairid. Tá bliain ait curtha dínn, ach ceapaim gur údar mórtais na léirsithe dlúthphártaíochta atá ag tarlú fud fad na tíre ní hamháin ar son na Pailistíne ach i gcoinne an fhoiréigin agus na fuath freisin. Solas agus sólás le linn ama dhorcha.
Solas and sólás feature heavily in this month’s podcast, which looks at the light and dark in our relationships with musicians; the effect the death of an artist on fans; the legacy they leave behind; and the importance of community - recurring theme - and creativity in our lives.
With Mac Miller as our artist of the month, I was thrilled to have ever-lovely Sinéad Ní Scolaí in studio to discuss his career, prophetic lyrics, Winnie The Pooh, and the essential role that play can have in our lives and general wellbeing. She arrived in her Circles t-shirt for the chat, and told me about the time she army-crawled through a golf park to see Mac Miller. Iconic.

Just 20 lá sular cailleadh é, thaifead Mac an Tiny Desk Concert seo, ceann d’fhíseáin is mó radharc de chuid NPR. Watch the cute lil riff at 7:40 or Thundercat’s ‘thank you’ at 9:00 if nothing else.
On the podcast you will hear us talk about:

If you’re new to Mac Miller, Circles is his last album, released a year after his death, and it is absolutely gorgeous:
Cúpla rud eile le gairid:
Ó Bhéal (ticéid ar fail anseo) is a gorge new documentary by Ciara Nic Chormaic about the evolution of Irish spoken word from sean-nós to hip-hop. It features Strangeboy, Oisín Mac, Fehdah, and Enda Gallery and is beautiful and informative and inspiring. Definitely recommend watching it. Míle buíochas le Mind the Gap a thug cuireadh dom agallamh a chur ar na haíonna ag an seoladh sa Lighthouse an mhí seo, I love love loved being able to chat to the cast after the film!
Huge GRMA to everyone who watched my interview with Dáithí Ó Sé on TG4! It was weird to be interviewed as opposed to being the interviewer, but it was fun - beidh cúpla aoi iontach ar an tsraith san athbhliain, coinnigh súil amach dóibh! Tá cúpla lá fágtha le breathnú ar an agallamh anseo: Seal le Dáithí - Emma Ní Chearúil | Player | Irish Television Channel, Súil Eile (tg4.ie). Go raibh míle maith agaibh as na teachtaireachtaí faoi freisin, it was so lovely and overwhelming to hear from everyone, including my cutest fan, Róise 🩷
And finally🎄🎄 some Christmas spirit! 🎄🎄
Inniu an 1 Nollaig agus táim ag géilleadh do na soilse, na stocaí clúmhacha, coinnle Nollag a lasadh sa teach agus ceol na Nollag ar na callairí. Mar sin, seo seinnliosta Nollag ar Spotify daoibh don mhí seo - meascán mearaí, clasaicí, cúpla amhrán ailtéirneach agus traiceanna nua le Lisa Hannigan, David Keenan, Jape agus The Staves 🎄
And here’s something cute you can do to spread Christmas cheer: ADP are looking for gift wrappers and donations for their Christmas gift appeal. You can sponsor a child’s gifts for as little as €5 or sign up for a few hours of wrapping and handing out gifts in Galway, Cork or Dublin. These events take place on Saturdays, you don’t need to be good at wrapping (distributors and extra hands are always needed!) and it is always so wholesome and rewarding. Info and donations here: Abolish Direct Provision Campaign and you can sign up to volunteer here.
Alternatively, MASI, Bang Bang Café and Bohemian’s are fundraising for a similar cause and you can donate to their campaign here: Fundraiser by Dan Lambert : Direct Provision Christmas Toy Drive 2023 🎄
So sin sin do mhí seo.. agus b’fhéidir don bhliain seo (beidh le feiceáil!). Coinnigh an misneach, beannachtaí na míosa oraibh agus go raibh Nollaig mhór mhaith agaibh ar fad - tá sé tuillte againn!
Sonas oraibh,
Em xx
