Heileo lovelies 💕
Go raibh míle maith agaibh ar fad as cur le seinnliostaí Vailintín an eagráin seo! Tá sé seo ar cheann de na traidisiúin is fearr liom le cúpla bliain anuas agus is aoibhinn liom bhur moltaí a chloisteáil. Tá seinnliostaí 2022 anseo más mian libh dul siar orthu, agus leaganacha 2023 ag bun na nuachtlitreach seo…
Tuigim nach bhfuil chuile dhuine ar aon intinn liom, but one thing about me is: I LOVE Valentine’s day. Cuma cén stad de mo shaol, bhain mé taitneamh as i gcónaí. Ceapaim go gcuirtear os ár gcomhair é mar rud a bhaineann leis an ngrá rómánsúil, agus caidrimh de chineáil ar leith, ach ní mar sin a thosaigh an nós!
Quick History of Valentine’s Day that may or may not be 100% factual:
St. Valentine had nothing to do with love. There’s actually uncertainty around what he was sainted for at all, with patronage of lovers, epileptics, and beekeepers all in the running for most likely cause, but his day was associated with the start of Spring - ar nós Lá 'le Bríde na nGael - and so poets and writers would romanticise about the start of new life, and the time of year where birds would return the trees - and mate! As this notion developed into the 18th century, Valentine traditions became community events. Towns would hold Valentine lotteries where everyone would draw names and write a poem or dedicate a gift to their given Valentine, but in platonic way: you could be matched with your granny, neighbour, or school teacher, with no romantic connotation. There were other, hornier variations on this too, like a rule that you had to kiss the first person you saw on the day, and so people would blindfold themselves until in the company of someone they deemed kissable etc. etc. But originally it was a wholesome celebration of spring and new life that involved creativity and community.
I know Galentine’s has formed as an antithesis of Valentine’s Day but I think that misses the point. You don’t have to be in love to love love or to love anyone or anything else and to celebrate that. It’s actually really nice to have an excuse to tell yourself, a friend, or your mam that you love them, or to look around at things you love in your life like sunny days or tulips from Lidl, or the way the women on Mary St say strawbries. 🍓
Also it’s my birthday, so maybe I’m biased.
Mura bhfuil tú tógtha le hamhráin ghrá, mholfainn ár mír ceoil ar Splanc na seachtaine seo ina raibh plé agam le Cuán maidir leis na breakup songs is fearr le 50 bliain anuas. I got to play Aly and AJ on Newstalk so I know my career is going in the right direction.
Ach an chúis gur tháinig sibh chomh fada leis seo ná le seinnliostaí 2023 a chloisteáil, mar sin seo chugaibh: bhur rogha amhrán grá agus frithghrá 2023!
Is breá liom gur tháinig roinnt amhrán in airde ar an dá liosta, nó go bhfuil amhrán nár shamhlaigh mise a bheith ina n-amhrán grá ach go bhfuil brí ar leith acu do dhaoine eile. Freisin, tá liosta na n-amhrán grá 20 amhrán níos faide ná an liosta frithghrá, rud a deir liom nach bhfuil daoine chomh fuarchúiseach sin ar deireadh thiar!
Bonus beag: seo chugaibh seinnliosta na n-amhrán ar fad a luaigh mé fhéin agus Cuán ar Splanc na seachtiane seo, breakup songs from Bonnie Tyler to Avril Lavigne, molaim é: Spotify – Splanc ar Newstalk: Breakup Songs
